I. Prison Directorate Building:- Located near Aizawl Police Station at Babutlang with an area of 0.36Bigha (5217.31 Sq ft).Three storeyed Building of 464.00m2 Plinth area. Originally constructed in two-storeyed building at an estimated cost of Rs.25.25 lakhs in 1988. I.G Prisons/D.I.G/A.I.G/Superintendent and other subordinate staff are working to look after the state jail administration from this Headquarters office building since 23/3/1990. Earlier, private buildings were hired for office of Prison Directorate under full time Inspector General's from 14/10/1982-22/3/1990 (7yrs and 5months). (Ph No. 0389321855/Fax : 03892300691)
II. Central Jail, Aizawl:- Established and commissioned on 15.9.1986 located at 12kms distance from Aizawl Court, D.C Complex, between Tanhril and Sakawrtuichhun Village, (now within City area).It has four walls of 800mtrs long with capacity of accommodation for – Male 438 .This is the only Central Jail in the State where life convicts and other long term and habitual convicts besides undertrials are admitted. There is a Separate Women Jail under the same Special Superintendent which can hold a capacity of 96 prisoners, mainly look after by one Jailer, but guarded and looked after round the clock exclusively by Female warders. Children up to 6yrs old with mothers are also admitted. Mini Children Park with Swing, See-saw etc. are provided for the recreation of innocent children living with their mothers in Jails. Special items of Nutritional food for the children are also provided from ICDS, Social Welfare Department. Around 142 nos of Jail Employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this Jail. 77% of them have been provided with quarters in the Jail Complex. One Ambulance have been provided. Outdoor Patient Department is looked after by 1 Doctor, 2 staff Nurses, 1 pharmacist.
III. District Jail, Aizawl:- Located at Armed Veng South, (three)3 kms from District Court Complex and used for lodging of adolescent male prisoners only with Drugs and related cases since 31.3.1990. It has a capacity of lodging for 90 inmates. Facilities provided - Volleyball game, Table Tennis, TVs, indoor games like carom, drought, chess, Radios, Guitars, Conference Hall for lectures /sermons/counseling from outside NGOs and Jail Staff. There are Jail Superintendent, Jailor, Assistant Jailors, LDC, Guarding Staff (Warder).67% of Staff have been provided with family quarters within jail complex.
IV. District Jail, Lunglei:- Located at Sazaikawn, 3kms from District Court Complex and commissioned on 19.9.1977. It has a capacity of lodging 109 Prisoners. Facilities provided are Volleyball games, Table Tennis, TVs Indoor games like carom, draught, chess, Radios, Guitars, Conference Hall for lectures/Sermons/counseling from NGOs and Jail Staff. 62nos of Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail. 75% of them have been provided with staff quarters in the Jail Complex.
V. District Jail,Saiha:- Established and commissioned on 9/4/1977,located at 3 kms distance from District Court. It has a capacity of accommodating 92 Prisoners. Facilities of recreation provided are Volleyball game, T.T , Carrom, Chess, Draught, Guiters, T.V, Radios. 27nos of Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail 90% of them have been provided with staff quarter in the jail complex.
VI. District Jail, Champhai:- Established and commissioned on 29.11.1990 it is located at 2 ½ kms from D.C Court. It has a capacity of accommodating 105 prisoners. All Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail. 76% of them are provided with staff quarters in the jail complex. Indoor Games like Chess, Draught Board, Chinese Checker, Carrom are present inside Jail Complex, besides, Volleyball Court had also been placed.
VII. District Jail, Kolasib:- Established and commissioned on 27.11.1990 It is located at 3 kms distance from D.C Court. It has a capacity of accommodating 134 prisoners. All Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail. 90% of them are provided with staff quarters in the jail complex. Indoor and Outdoor items are available inside the Jail.
VIII. District Jail, Lawngtlai:- Established and commissioned on 18.3.2011. It is located at 7 (Seven) Kms from D.C.Court. It has a capacity of accomodating 98 prisoners. All Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail. 90% of them are provided with staff quarters in the jail complex. Indoor and Outdoor items are available inside the Jail.
IX. District Jail, Serchhip:- Established and commissioned on 15.9.2016. It is located at Chhiahtlang Village, 11.4(Eleven point four) Kms from D.C.Court. It has a capacity of accomodating 128 prisoners. All Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail. 90% of them are provided with staff quarters in the jail complex. Indoor and Outdoor items are available inside the Jail.
X. District Jail, Mamit:- Established and commissioned on 23.9.2016. It is located at Sabual Village, 10.8 (Ten point eight) Kms from D.C.Court. It has a capacity of accommodating 96 prisoners. All Jail employees headed by Jail Superintendent look after this jail. 90% of them are provided with staff quarters in the jail complex. Indoor and Outdoor items are available inside the Jail.
